Matcha Information

What is matcha?

Matcha is a vivid green, concentrated powder made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea plant. It is found most commonly in Japan and China and tends to have a distinct flavour that is sweeter and smoother than other green teas.

What's the difference between matcha and loose leaf green tea?

While both come from the same tea plant, they're grown, processed, and enjoyed quite differently.

Loose leaf green tea is steeped in hot water, and the leaves are removed before drinking. Matcha is made by finely stone-grinding specially shade-grown tea leaves into a vibrant green powder, which is whisked directly into water or milk. Because you're consuming the entire leaf, matcha offers a richer flavour, naturally higher levels of antioxidants and nutrients, and a smooth, sustained energy boost from its unique combination of natural caffeine and L-theanine.

How does matcha support my wellbeing?
  • Rich in antioxidants: full of catechins (EGCG) that neutralise free radicals and lower the risk of chronic diseases.
  • Natural Polyphenols: helps to reduce inflammation and heart diseases.
  • The chlorophyll that gives matcha its vibrant green colour promotes cell repair and body detoxing.
  • The combination of L-theanine and natural caffeine provides calm and clear focus after hours of hard work or extensive study.
  • Loads of Vitamins (C, A, E) and Minerals (Zinc, Selenium, Iron) strengthen your body’s immune system.
Is there caffeine in matcha?

Yes, but the energy you get from it is completely unique. A traditional serving of matcha contains 20-45mg of caffeine—less than a third of what you’ll find in a standard cup of coffee. However, the caffeine in matcha behaves differently. Thanks to L-theanine, a rare amino acid found in green tea, the caffeine is absorbed slowly into your body. This natural pairing gives you a steady, "calm-alert" focus without the sudden spikes, crashes, or jitters associated with coffee.

Which matcha grade should I choose?

It all comes down to how you enjoy your daily matcha

  • Ceremonial Grade
Perfect for traditional matcha prepared with hot water only, it's also great in modern lattes – exceptionally smooth, naturally sweet, and rich in umami without any bitterness.
  • Premium Latte Grade
Ideal for lattes, iced drinks, and smoothies – pairs beautifully with dairy and plant-based milks, bringing vibrant colour and fresh aroma.
  • Latte Grade
Good for lattes, smoothies and cooking & baking recipes – brings a bold flavour and gentle balancing earthiness to your creation.

Not sure where to start?
Our Latte Grade Matcha is the most versatile option. It's perfect for creamy daily lattes and iced drinks while also performing exceptionally well in baking, desserts and mixing with other ingredients.

How much matcha is reasonable?

1-2 servings per day (about 1-2 teaspoons or 2-4 grams total) is generally considered a moderate intake.

How should the matcha be stored?

Store your matcha in a cool, dry place away from heat, light, moisture, and strong odours. Once opened, we strongly recommend finishing it as soon as possible for the best flavour. Matcha that has been opened will retain its optimal freshness for roughly six months.

Matcha doesn’t strictly expire, but its flavour, vibrant colour, and benefits fade over time. For longer-term storage, unopened packages can be kept in the freezer for over 6 months.
